The Islay

Situated in the western side off the coast of the mainland of Scotland, this region is famous for its peated whiskies. Home of the lost distillery Port Ellen, famous for its high priced discontinued whisky, it also held a handful of other distilleries.

Distillery like Laphroaig and Lagavulin created those typical heavily peated whisky with flavor like iodine, smoke and even brine! Some less peated example are also created by distilleries such as Caol Ila and Bowmore but still have some costal effect remaining in its blood.
